Maternity Fashion

Maternity fashion has come a long way in the last decade. Pregnant women can now look effortlessly stylish and are spoilt for choice when it comes to maternity fashion. The concept of MotherLand is to provide stylish maternity clothes to pregnant women everywhere at affordable prices.

Why should I purchase maternity clothes ? - Kristen and I started MotherLand Maternity with a clear goal in mind - to provide affordable maternity clothes that are stylish, comfortable and up to date with the latest trends. Maternity clothes are designed specifically to cater to your growing belly and your changing shape throughout your pregnancy and beyond.

Can't I just wear larger sizes in regular clothes ? - You can, however, larger sizes in regular clothing will look big everywhere, not just in your belly area. Maternity clothes are designed to allow room for your expanding bump whilst still fitting you nicely across your shoulders and hips. Maternity clothes will ensure that you look stylish and chic, stretching in the belly whilst fitting your body nicely everywhere else. Maternity clothing is also a lot more comfortable than oversizes regular clothing which is really important during pregnancy, especially in the later months.

When will I need to start wearing maternity clothes ? - You will probably start noticing that your regular clothes are starting to feel a bit tight somewhere between 15 and 18 weeks into your first pregnancy. This can be much earlier for subsequent pregnancies. I started wearing maternity clothes when I was 18 weeks pregnant for my first pregnancy, 15 weeks for my second pregnancy and just 13 weeks for my third pregnancy.

What are the best fabrics to wear when I am pregnant ? - We suggest that you purchase maternity clothes made from stretchy, breathable fabrics that will cater to your changing shape and keep you cool. A good quality cotton or bamboo jersey is a great choice for casual maternity clothes such as tee's, tanks, maternity leggings and casual maternity dresses such as wrap dresses. Maternity pyjamas made from a stretchy cotton or bamboo jersey that will stretch over your growing belly, and then regain their shape are also a great choice. MotherLand stocks an extensive range of evening maternity wear made from more dressy fabrics such as satin/ spandex and polyester/ spandex  which are good choices for evening maternity dresses and tops.

Should I purchase breastfeeding clothes ? - Breastfeeding tops, dresses and sleepwear will allow you to breastfeed comfortably and discreetly which is especially convenient in public places. They are also very convenient during your hospiatl stay when medical staff and visitors are contantly visiting. I loved my breastfeeding pyjamas for late night and early morning feeds. My friend once said to me ' now that I have tried breastfeeding clothes I couldn't live withou them '. Breasfeeding clothes offer convenience, allowing you to breastfeed discreetly without exposing your breasts and belly. Breastfeeding clothes made from cotton jersey or bamboo jersey will keep you cooler and they are more effective at absorbing moisture than synthetic fabrics.

What are your best selling maternity clothing items ? -  MotherLand has quickly become a popular shopping destination for pregnant and breastfeeding mums. Our maternity sleepwear and our maternity evening dresses are very popular. Our most popular individual styles in our maternity clothing range are our versatile maternity pants, our maternity wrap dresses, army green maternity cargo pants, essential maternity abd breastfeeding tee's, hot maternity jeans, polka dot maternity and breastfeeding pyjamas and our 10 way maxi dress.

MotherLand is expanding rapidly as pregnant women everywhere are discovering that maternity clothes can be affordable whilst still being stylish and trendy. Our maternity clothes are made from great quality, stretchy fabrics designed to cater perfectly to your changing shape throughout your pregnancy and beyond.

Breastfeeding

Breastfeeding is a wonderful experince and gives your baby a great start to life and is a good chance to relax and bond with your baby. Whilst some new mums breeze through breastfeeding for the first time, others find it a big challenge. For me, breastfeeding was a skill that I found very challenging and at times painful. In reality it can be a frustrating and at times painful skill that can take time and lots of practice to master. The good news is that most, not all, breastfeeding problems can be overcome with perserverance.

When my first baby was born I had unrealistic expectations - I thought breastfeeding was going to be easy and felt like a failure when I experienced difficulties. I seeked out the help of the midwives at the hospital and spoke to other mums who were breastfeeding and soon realised that I wasn't alone. I think it took about 6 weeks until I reached the point where I felt comfortable breastfeeding. It is recommended that you breastfeed as soon as possible after the birth of your baby. There are lactation specialists in most hospitals so they and the midwives are a great source of help. I remeber having 3 nurses around me showing me how to position my baby (lol).

If you choose to breastfeed let your nearest and dearest know that breastfeeding is important to you. This will increase your chances of having a support group immediately around you. Advice on breastfeeding has changed over the years so it is very possible that your mum or your grandmother have different advice that they received all those years ago. If you have already left the hospital and you need some help with breastfeeding you can find lactation specialists in your local yellow pages or through your local hospital. The Australian Breastfeeding association also offer phone support.

Your breasts will need a lot of care when breastfeeding. Wearing a comfortable bra that gives a good amount of support will help reduce the chance of back and shouler discomfort. Expressing a small amount of milk and rubbing it gently on your nipples during the early days of breastfeeding is supposed to help nipple grazes. If you do experience painful, lumpy breasts make sure you seek medical help as some new mums do get a blocked duct or mastitus which can be very painful and impede your milk flow.

I found that breastfeeding in a quiet location helped me feel relaxed during the few weeks (although this can be difficult, if not impossible when you also have a toddler). Breastfeeding can become a heated issue (literally) as your body tempreature rises, so if possible sit in a cool location and wear comfortable, lightweight clothes. There are various styles of breastfeeding clothes available to purchase online or in maternity clothing stores which are specifically designed for breastfeeding mums. Choose fabrics that are made from natural fibres such as cotton or bamboo rather than synthetic fabrics which will make you feel hotter and sweat. Make sure you have a tall glass of water handy as you may feel very thirsty during or after breastfeeding. Investing in a comfortable pair of maternity and breastfeeding pyjamas will ensure you keep your tummy covered when breastfeeding whilst allowing easy access to the breast. They are also great during your hospital stay when visitors and medical staff are coming and going.

There are a few different styles of breastfeeding tops available. MotherLand stock maternity and breastfeeding cammisole tops that clip down from the shoulder straps to allow for discreet breastfeeding. Our most popular style of breastfeeding tops, breastfeeding pyjamas and brestfeeding nighties are those that you simply push to the side to allow access to the breast. We stock an extensive range of affordable, comfotable and trendy  breastfeeding clothes that you can purchase online now. The girls at MotherLand wish you the very best during this incredible time of your life. xxx

What's Your Maternity Clothing Style ?

Being pregnant can be a great excuse to experiment with fashion while you have fun dressing up your bump. We asked one of our customers to tell us about their maternity clothing style ....... I loved dressing up my bump during all of my pregnancies. I chose maternity dresses that I could dress up or down to stretch my maternity clothing budget further. I also felt more daring with my maternity clothes feeling great in more feminine styles, adding a few more frills than I would normally wear and I loved wearing bold, bright colours. I also chose maternity clothes that I thought would be suitable to wear post pregnancy as I knew it would take a while to regain my post pregnancy shape. I had an overwhelming desire to dress up my bump.

I purchased 2 pairs of maternity jeans. Jeans are such a staple in most peoples wardrobes so a great pair of comfortable maternity jeans are a must. I chose maternity jeans that had a belly band attached which I continued to wear for 3 or 4 moths after my baby was born. I just rolled the belly band down and they were really comfortable. I paired my maternity leggings with soft, stretchy maternity tanks and a maternity hoodie for exercising in and then wore them with long maternity tops and flats for shopping and casual outings. I also wore my maternity leggings under dresses with boots in winter. There are loads of ways to wear maternity leggings. I also transformed some of my summer maternity dresses into winter outfits by wearing a long sleeve maternity top underneath with my leggings and boots. My most versatile outfit was my short sleeve maternity wrap dress (which I still wear now). I wore it in summer with flats or heels and then I added a long sleeve turtleneck underneath in winter. I also bought a comfortable pair of maternity pyjamas which I really appreciated during my hospital stay when I was breastfeeding with guests dropping in.
